Realtor Discovers Explosives Inside Nashville ... - AOL Real Estate

Twenty to 25 homes in a Nashville, Tenn., neighborhood were evacuated after a Realtor who was prepping a home on the market for a viewing reportedly had quite a shock. The real estate agent discovered explosives in the crawl space of the home on Catspaw Court, according to Nashville TV station WSMV reported. According to the TV station, the devices were determined to be pipe bombs and a bomb squad was called in to remove the explosives. Another local TV station, WTVF, said authorities believed the devices were simulators, but WSMV reported that police later determined that they were hazardous.

According to WSMV, the previous owner of the home died suddenly and the house had been up for sale for more than a year. The TV station reported that the owner used to be a member of Nashville's Metro Bomb Squad, which could explain why there were explosives at the home. It was not clear, though, why the owner would have been allowed to transport explosive devices to his house.

Police reportedly kept surrounding neighbors out of their homes for five hours on Sunday night while authorities removed the explosives and concluded their on-scene investigation. Residents weren't allowed to return to their homes until 12:30 a.m. Monday morning, WSMV reported. The identity of the Realtor who found the explosives was not disclosed. WSMV reported that a person who had inspected the home just a month ago saw the devices but did not report them to police because that person didn't think there was a threat to public safety.

A similar stir occurred in 2011 when an irate Seattle homeowner facing eviction reportedly "booby-trapped" a home that was in foreclosure. Though in that incident, no actual explosives were found connected to the apparent tripwire. For other scary and odd discoveries in homes, see the gallery below.

EXCLUSIVE | George Castro Talks About, and Gives Tips for, Health ...

George Castro, the former professional MMA fighter and current trainer at Alliance MMA joined BJPENN.COM?s Fist-Ta-Cuff Radio program this past Sunday, April 28, 2013 to talk about his new ventures into promoting health and fitness.

Though Castro is known throughout the MMA world, he stressed that the Alliance gym has grown to a much wider range of people, even making note that a lot of clients whom he trains do not know a thing about mixed martial arts.

?I train anywhere from six year olds all the way up to 60, 65 year old people and I think it?s great man,? Castro began. ?I wish everybody would get in the gym and get a workout in; might not have to be 2-3 times a day, six days a week, but once a day for an hour and stick to a healthy eating program can make a big difference in everybody?s health, you know?

?I?ve heard it over time and time again, how many- not only just women, any age women, any age men are intimidated to walk into a gym similar to ours. We really want people to understand and know that despite [Alliance] being one of the top 3-5 gyms in the world for MMA, we do focus on fitness and having a healthy lifestyle.?

In promoting the upcoming weight training and nutritional seminar at Alliance MMA from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. this upcoming Saturday, May 4, Castro said that he?d hoped those the people who want to make positive changes in their lives, diet and workouts but lack the proper knowledge to do so correctly, would come out.

?Those are the people that I hope that do come to the seminar, because obviously they want to get in shape, they want to be healthier, they just don?t have the right direction. So hopefully between [the three coaches] that day on Saturday we can give some people an insight on how to lift, what to eat, when to eat? Castro said of coach David Nunez and Elle Foxx Delallo who will be joining him for the seminar.

The people who want to change, but can?t do it the right way are those whom Castro wants to help most. In addition, he mentions people who believe that eating far less than you should (between 1200-1300 calories per day) are starving themselves and depriving their bodies of the essential nutrients needed to boost their metabolism through eating several small meals daily.

?I think the biggest thing that women do wrong, and I don?t want to pick on women, but women seem to feel that the less they eat the skinnier, the healthier they?re going to be and that?s wrong. That goes for male and female. It?s funny the way your body works; if you eat every two hours, your metabolism will speed up. It might be hard in the beginning because you?re not hungry, but your body will get used to it.?

To hear the full-length interview with George Castro including his thoughts on the marketing behind numerous health products and whether they?re legitimate or just gimmicks, listen to the player below or visit the Fist-Ta-Cuff radio channel and listen on demand.

Siva Cycle Atom bike-powered battery charger eyes-on (video)

It was just about a week ago that we first told you about Siva Cycle's Atom, a pedal-powered battery charger that's currently taking Kickstarter by storm, healthily surpassing its $85,000 goal, with 21 days to spare. Lo and behold, the kinetic peripheral popped up on the Hardware Alley floor at TechCrunch Disrupt, here in NYC. Actually trying the thing out is a bit much to ask in the crowded Manhattan Center, but the company was nice enough to demo the device with a little good, old-fashioned hand power.

The system is pretty minimally invasive, from the looks of it. The removable battery pack sits next to the rear wheel axle, and there's also a USB port just below the seat for charging devices more directly. Get in early, and you'll be able to pick the system up for $85. Not convinced? Check out the company's plea in a video just after the break.

Putting Together an Espresso Machine Is Music for Your Morning

The last thing you want to hear in the morning is noise. But when that noise comes from a beloved espresso machine? Combined with that sweet smell of coffee beans? That's sweet cup music for every morning.

Espresso machine manufacturer Sanremo UK turned assembling an espresson machine into music with the help of The Media Workshop. I'm a sucker for creating thumping music from ordinary objects. [Sanremo UK via Laughing Squid]

Saturn's youthful appearance explained

Apr. 30, 2013 ? As planets age they become darker and cooler. Saturn however is much brighter than expected for a planet of its age -- a question that has puzzled scientists since the late sixties. New research published in the journal Nature Geoscience has revealed how Saturn keeps itself looking young and hot.

Researchers from the University of Exeter and the Ecole Normale Sup?rieure de Lyon found that layers of gas, generated by physical instability deep within the giant planet, prevent heat from escaping and have resulted in Saturn failing to cool down at the expected rate.

Professor Gilles Chabrier from Physics & Astronomy at the University of Exeter said: "Scientists have been wondering for years if Saturn was using an additional source of energy to look so bright but instead our calculations show that Saturn appears young because it can't cool down. Instead of heat being transported throughout the planet by large scale (convective) motions, as previously thought, it must be partly transferred by diffusion across different layers of gas inside Saturn. These separate layers effectively insulate the planet and prevent heat from radiating out efficiently. This keeps Saturn warm and bright."

Characterised by its distinctive rings, Saturn is one of the largest planets in our Solar System, second only in size to massive Jupiter. It is primarily made of hydrogen and helium and its excessive brightness has previously been attributed to helium rains, the result of helium failing to mix with Saturn's hydrogen rich atmosphere.

Layered convection, like that recently discovered in Saturn, has been observed in Earth's oceans where warm, salty water lies beneath cool and less salty water. The denser, salty water prevents vertical currents forming between the different layers and so heat cannot be transported efficiently upwards.

These findings suggest that the interior structure, composition and thermal evolution of giant planets in our Solar System, and beyond, may be much more complex than previously thought.

Chechen linesman gets life ban, $16,200 fine for assault

MOSCOW (Reuters) - The Russian FA (RFU) upheld a life ban for Chechen linesman Musa Kadyrov on Tuesday and fined him $16,200 for assaulting a player in a league match.

The incident occurred at the end of Sunday's reserve game in Grozny between local side Terek and Amkar Perm when a raging Kadyrov dropped his flag and ran on to the pitch, attacking Amkar defender Ilya Krichmar.

Kadyrov, seen on video pushing 18-year-old Krichmar to the ground, then kicking and punching him, was banned for life by the Chechen soccer association on Monday.

The RFU's disciplinary committee upheld the decision, banning Kadyrov from any involvement in the game, and fined him 500,000 roubles ($16,200) for a "direct attack on players which could have caused a real risk to their health".

"Kadyrov must pay the fine out of his own pocket," committee head Artur Grigoryants told reporters.

Kadyrov told local media that he would not appeal against the ban.

Krichmar was suspended for four matches and fined $490 for 'unsportsmanlike conduct', effectively banning him for the rest of the season with only four games left.
